We love Xmas and New Year because it is a time to celebrate with friends and relatives from near and far. Also, a time to eat and drink - and sometimes a bit more than is good for us!
Festive foods are often low in fibre and high in sugar, and also high in alcohol resulting in sluggishness of both the liver and bowel. The remedy is a change to fresh foods again, and have colon irrigation to empty the bowel.
Getting healthier is not the only benefit of de-toxing: Weight loss is a welcome side-effect!
What is detoxing?
There are four systems in the body for elimination: kidneys, skin, lungs and colon.
The most sensitive being the kidneys, because they are not designed to eliminate large quantities of toxins. In fact the kidneys will fail if they are given a large toxic load e.g. Over-exposure to metals, solvents, clostridium botulinum, certain antibiotics, and other medications or substances.
The colon, on the other hand, is designed to eliminate many toxic substances which, having being processed by the liver, are excreted via bile into the colon and eliminated with the faeces. The problem only arises when the colon is constipated and toxins are reabsorbed into circulation for elimination through the kidneys. The level of toxicity can be measured by a simple urine test for a chemical called Indican which is normally not found in the urine of healthy people. The higher the test reading the more toxic the person. These test kits can be obtained from our clinic. Indican is also a test of how thoroughly the colon empties itself, and how efficient digestion is. Poor digestion starts the production of Indican which is compounded by poor elimination.
Detoxing is a process that should begin by knowing what should be eaten, how it is digested, and improving the elimination of waste. Colonic Irrigation cleans and tones the colon aiding the elimination of toxins.
The colon takes revenge!
(A light-hearted look at our internal workings)
One day the body got together and decided to have a board meeting. Here’s what went on behind closed doors. There was an intense discussion to determine:
Who was the most important part of the body?
The brain was the first to speak: ‘Without me, nothing would be accomplished’.
Then the heart spoke up: ‘Without me pumping blood to your brain, you could not function’.
The arms laughed: ‘You’re both wrong. Without me to put food in the mouth, nothing would work.’
The stomach said: ‘Without me your food would not digest’.
The lungs bellowed back: ‘Without me you couldn’t breathe.’
The eyes blinked: ‘Without me you could not see.’
The kidneys snorted: ‘Without me you could not filter or eliminate.’
The colon meekly spoke up: I am also important. You need me to eliminate all the waste from your systems.’
Everyone laughed and made fun of him: ‘How can you be as important as we are. You’re just a smelly old sewer.’
The poor colon…his feelings were hurt! He turned away and thought, I’ll show them. He shut down!! Then he sat back and watched what would happen.
The brain was stupefied.
The heart skipped a beat.
The arms were weak and couldn’t move.
The lung was breathless.
The eyes became cloudy.
The kidneys stopped functioning.
Then the colon looked around and decided it was time to call another meeting. It wasn’t too lively this time, but everyone was in total agreement: The colon was the most important organ!
