The Greens have been
working together as a husband and wife team in Redcar, Cleveland,
since 1989. Kenneth has qualifications in various alternative and
complementary therapies, and is a Registered Naturopath (MRN). He
also has qualifications in agriculture obtained in South Africa where
he was born and educated.
Polly was born in
Redcar but spent half her youth in Chester learning ballet. Her
interest in Natural Health came about as a result of her father
(W.H.Grove) introducing health foods and natural remedies into his
chemist shop. She then studied for a diploma in Swedish Massage and
also became one of the first teachers of Yoga in Teesside.
Kenneth completed a
four year doctorate course in homeopathy and naturopathy in South
Africa in 1973 and came to England to work at Tyringham Naturopathic
Clinic. A few months later Polly completed her training and also went
to Tyringham. Needless to say, it was love at first sight, and the
rest is history!
From Tyringham they
moved to Hampshire where Kenneth became deputy principal and resident
osteopath at the exclusive Forest Mere Hydro, which was owned by the
Savoy Hotel Group, one of the original Naturopathic country health
retreats.
They later moved to
South Africa for a few years where Polly learned a few words of
Afrikaans and got to enjoy real sunshine! They also studied education
technology and assisted in programs for educating school pupils in
underprivileged rural areas.
However, politics
intervened, so Kenneth and Polly returned to England, and Forest
Mere, in 1980. For the next eight years it was life in the fast-lane
as the family grew, and Kenneth took on the part-time task of running
the International Academy of Nutrition in Britain, and Polly studied
colour analysis. Her colour consultancy at Forest Mere was highly
regarded and attracted some famous names.
By 1989, the Greens
decided to move northwards as Polly's family were still in the Redcar
area, and so the Cleveland Natural Health Clinic came into existence.
In 2002 Polly decided to extend her knowledge by studying Colonic
Hydrotherapy at Coveyheugh in Scotland. This led to a new
additional clinic, called Healthy Detox Limited, being opened in
Guisborough for the practice of Colonic Hydrotherapy. In April 2007 a
third clinic was opened in Spain (see index). More recently Kenneth
completed a
lengthy course in Bowen Technique which he practices in Redcar and in
Spain.
The accent now in
the Redcar and Guisborough practices is on holistic
therapy. The whole person is considered during treatment, not just the
pain, or the dysfunction. There is a connection between the mind, body,
food, and health. In Spain there is an extra emphasis on detoxing to
achieve a rapid return to optimum health.
Alternative and Complementary solutions are often
the only permanent cure for modern illnesses.
